Jenée Thorsell

MSSW, LCSW

Jenée is accepting new clients starting in mid June.

I believe that healing is a journey of self-discovery, and my role is to walk alongside you as you uncover what’s been holding you back. Using a blend of evidence-based techniques and holistic approaches, I help you make sense of your experiences, release what no longer serves you, and step into a more empowered version of yourself. My goal is to create a space where you feel truly seen, supported, and ready to grow.

Areas of Special Interest

“The only constant in life is change” – Heraclitus

Change is a constant part of life, and I’m passionate about supporting individuals ready to grow through it. I enjoy working with individuals who are ready to create a life aligned with their true selves—especially those facing challenges like anxiety, depression, or major life transitions. This includes working through the complexities of parenting and identity, learning to understand and navigate their emotional world with greater clarity and compassion, and seeking to build a life rooted in joy, purpose, and contentment.

Through this process, people learn to reconnect with, accept, and love their authentic selves—addressing unresolved experiences, releasing outdated expectations, and building a whole, empowered life.

My Philosophy

As your therapist, my role is to be your advocate and create a space where you can feel safe to be fully yourself—free from judgment or pressure. In this supportive environment, you’re encouraged to dig deep and explore the patterns, beliefs, and experiences that may be keeping you stuck. I value the collaborative nature of private practice and believe that healing happens most deeply in connection.

Ultimately, the focus is on helping you take what you discover in our sessions and gently apply it to your daily life, so you can experience meaningful growth and positive change.

Therapeutic Approaches

I enjoy the collaborative relationship that private practice provides. I blend conventional and alternative therapeutic techniques and modalities, tailoring each approach to what will be the most helpful for each client.

I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches to meet you where you are and support your unique healing journey. This may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to shift distressing thought patterns, Internal Family Systems (IFS) to connect with and heal different parts of yourself, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you live in alignment with your values while increasing psychological flexibility. I also incorporate Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help process and reframe trauma-related beliefs, along with Brainspotting and hypnosis to access deeper layers of awareness and support subconscious healing.

Mindfulness and meditation practices are used to cultivate presence and emotional regulation, while psychoanalytic insight can uncover unconscious influences from early experiences. Each of these approaches is tailored to help you reconnect with your inner truth, release what no longer serves you, and move toward a life that feels more grounded, whole, and aligned.

My Professional Background

My path into this work began during my undergraduate studies in Psychology at UNC Charlotte, where I graduated in 2008. As a research assistant, I had the opportunity to present at academic conferences, which deepened my curiosity about the human mind and emotional healing. In 2009, I packed my bags and moved to Austin, Texas, where I earned my Master’s of Science in Clinical Social Work in 2011. Since then, I’ve worked across a variety of clinical settings—ranging from inpatient units focused on acute and chronic mental health, to general outpatient clinics, to specialized combat PTSD clinics serving Veterans. These diverse roles have shaped my approach and reaffirmed my passion for working with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. Now in private practice, I bring all of this experience into a grounded, compassionate space where healing and growth can unfold.
